Homemade Dessert
A whoopie pie is a small snack, situated somewhere between a cake and a soft cookie, and filled with a creamy filling.
Because of its full figure and "black and white" look, Whoopie pies are also known as "BFO," which means "Big Fat Oreo."
Whoopie pie is a traditional snack of the Amish people of New England in the northeastern United States. The man went out to farm and the woman prepared this sweet cream pie at home. When men see it when they open their lunch box, they exclaim "Whoopie," which is how it got its name.
Then the Whoopie changed a lot. Some are made to look like macarons, others like plump Oreo cookies, depending on whether the slices are thin or thick. Pie sizes also vary widely, from a bite to a palm-sized pie. It's a cross between a cake and a soft cookie, and it's much, much friendlier than a macaron, with a high success rate.
A Whoopie pie is usually filled with cream cheese, but can also be filled with marshmallows or ganache.
