Capitol Reef Adventures
Hey, Lykkers! Have you ever dreamed of wandering through stunning red rock formations and exploring hidden canyons?
Our recent adventure at Capitol Reef National Park was filled with breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable experiences that we can’t wait to share with you.
The Beauty of Capitol Reef
As we drove into Capitol Reef, the first thing that captivated us was the dramatic contrast of colors—vivid reds, oranges, and browns against the clear blue sky. This unique national park, located in southern Utah, is known for its stunning cliffs, canyons, and unique geological features. With over 100 miles of scenic roads and trails, there’s no shortage of exploration awaiting visitors.
One of our first stops was the Fruita Historic District, a charming area with old fruit orchards and remnants of early pioneer life. Here, we found Fruita’s famous pies, made from the fruit harvested from the surrounding orchards. The pies are available at the Gifford House Museum and Store, which opens from 9 AM to 5 PM daily. Trust us, indulging in a slice of fresh pie while soaking in the view was one of the highlights of our trip!
1. Discovering Cassidy Arch
Next, we set our sights on Cassidy Arch, a stunning natural arch named after the notorious outlaw Butch Cassidy. The hike to the arch is about 3 miles round-trip and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. As we made our way along the trail, we encountered vibrant wildflowers and breathtaking vistas that made the journey worthwhile.
Once we reached the arch, we couldn’t help but be awed by its grandeur. Standing beneath the arch and gazing out at the expansive canyon below was a surreal experience. The hike to Cassidy Arch is moderately challenging and best undertaken in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat, especially in summer months.
2. Exploring the Waterpocket Fold
Another unforgettable experience was exploring the Waterpocket Fold, a fascinating geological feature that stretches for over 100 miles. This fold consists of a series of cliffs and canyons formed by erosion and is home to diverse wildlife and stunning rock formations. We hiked through the Slot Canyon, where towering walls enclosed us, creating a magical atmosphere.
The best time to explore the Waterpocket Fold is in the spring or fall when temperatures are more comfortable. The park is open year-round, and there are no entrance fees, which is a fantastic perk for nature lovers.
3. Comfortable Stay at Capitol Reef Resort
For our accommodations, we chose to stay at the Capitol Reef Resort, located just a short drive from the park entrance. This unique resort offers a variety of lodging options, including charming cabins and luxury yurts. Prices start around 150 USD per night for a cabin, making it a comfortable and convenient base for our adventures.
The resort features stunning views of the surrounding cliffs and offers easy access to park trails. After a day of hiking, we enjoyed relaxing by the fire pit while stargazing in the clear night sky—a perfect ending to our action-packed days.
