This stunning resort is not only known for its world-class slopes but also for its breathtaking landscapes and unique mountain experiences.

The Allure of Rosa Khutor

Our first stop was Rosa Khutor, one of the most famous sections of Krasnaya Polyana. Host to the 2014 Winter Olympics, Rosa Khutor is a skier’s paradise with runs that cater to all levels, from beginner to expert. We couldn’t resist starting our day on the slopes, enjoying the thrill of the descent and the crisp mountain air. The ski season typically runs from November through April, giving us plenty of time to explore its various trails. Accessing the slopes costs around 3,500 RUB per day for adults and 2,000 RUB for children, which covers lift passes and entry to the resort’s facilities.

At the base of Rosa Khutor, we found charming cafés and shops selling hot cocoa and souvenirs—a perfect way to recharge after a few hours of skiing. One of the highlights was the cable car ride up the mountain. Gliding over the snowy landscape, we were surrounded by spectacular views of the Caucasus. The ride operates from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, giving everyone a chance to take in the sights.

Gorky Gorod: A Village in the Clouds

Next, we headed to Gorky Gorod, another fantastic area within Krasnaya Polyana. This village-style resort has a unique appeal, offering activities beyond skiing, making it an ideal destination for families and non-skiers alike. We explored the quaint streets, lined with shops, restaurants, and even a spa, before trying out tobogganing on the resort’s specially designed tracks. Tobogganing costs about 1,500 RUB per session, and it was a fun alternative to skiing!

For a more relaxed experience, we took the funicular to the top of Gorky Gorod’s main peak. The journey offers breathtaking views of the valley below, and from the top, we could see the snowy stretches and winding trails that make Krasnaya Polyana so special. The funicular is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily and costs around 1,000 RUB per person. We highly recommend visiting the observation deck up there—it’s a photographer’s dream!

Practical Tips for a Great Trip

If you’re planning to visit Krasnaya Polyana, here are some tips to ensure a smooth trip. Dress warmly and in layers, as temperatures can be quite cold, especially at higher altitudes.
