Peaceful Lake Camping
Hey Lykkers! Have you ever wondered what it's like to camp under the Northern Lights?
We've recently experienced the calm and beauty of Lake Inari, and we can't wait to share our adventure with you!
Best Camping Sites Around Lake Inari
The area around Lake Inari offers some of the most serene and beautiful camping sites in Finland. If you're looking for a place to pitch your tent, Inari Wilderness Camp is a must-visit. Located on the southern shores of the lake, this camp offers both traditional tent camping and cabins. Prices for a tent site range from €10 to €20 per night, while cabins start at €70 per night. The camp is open year-round, providing stunning views of the lake and access to nearby hiking trails.
For those seeking a more remote experience, Hammastunturi Wilderness Area offers free camping in the wild. Although there are no designated sites, it's perfect for those who love adventure and solitude. The area is ideal for backcountry campers, with nothing but the wild beauty of the Finnish Lapland around you. The only cost here is the bus ride to the site, around €40. However, keep in mind that there are no facilities, so it's important to come prepared.
Our Experience Camping by the Lake
We had the chance to camp at Inari Wilderness Camp during the summer, and it truly was a fantastic experience. Waking up to the soft sounds of the lake and watching the sunrise over the vast wilderness was unforgettable. We even caught a glimpse of the Northern Lights one evening—one of the most magical moments of our trip! However, we should mention that the area can get quite busy during peak tourist seasons, so if you're looking for solitude, it might be better to visit in the off-season.
Things to Keep in Mind
While camping around Lake Inari is a dream for nature enthusiasts, there are a few things to consider. For example, the weather can change rapidly, even in the summer, so it's essential to pack accordingly. Always bring layers of clothing, especially if you plan to camp in the shoulder seasons. Also, while Inari Wilderness Camp offers some amenities like a sauna, the more remote sites like Hammastunturi have no facilities at all, so be prepared to take care of your own needs.
Practical Information for Your Trip
When planning your camping trip, it's good to know that Lake Inari is easily accessible by car or bus from the nearby town of Inari. Public transport options are available, but renting a car gives you more flexibility. Most of the campsites and nature reserves around the lake are equipped with fire pits, and you can even cook your meals over an open flame, just like we did during our trip! Remember to follow the "Leave No Trace" principles, as the area is pristine and should be preserved for future generations.
